Senate Overturns Regulations

Canberra 25 September 2014:



The Senate overturned Government decision to repeal certain family visas. It means a huge relief for less affluent parents of Australian residents and citizens who couldn't afford contributory parent visas.



In additions, some relatives of Aussie residents will be pleased to hear that Aged dependent relative, Carer and Remaining relative visas are available again.

List of visa subclasses available again from 25 September 2014:

103 Parent

804 Aged Parent

114 / 838 Aged Dependent Relative

115 / 835 Remaining Relative

116 / 836 Carer

  • Work and Holiday visa arrangement for Vietnam

    18.3.2015

    18 March 2015: Australia and Vietnam signed a Work and Holiday Memorandum of Understanding, establishing a reciprocal Work and Holiday visa (subclass 462) arrangement between our two countries. This arrangement will allow up to 200 young adults from Vietnam and up to 200 young adults from Australia to enjoy a holiday in each other's country, during which they can undertake short term work and study.   • IELTS MONOPOLY ENDS

    From 23 November 2014, alternative tests to IELTS are available:

    - a Test of English as a Foreign Language internet-based Test (TOEFL iBT)

    - a Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic).

    From 1 January 2015, CAE tests will be accepted.

  • Partner Visa Application Fee Increase

    Starting from 1 January 2015 the Partner Visa Application Charge (VAC) is going to increase in price.​​​ There has been a 50 per cent increase to most partner Visa Application Charges. More details here.

Migration Agents Code of Conduct

The Code of Conduct for registered migration agents is set out in legislation to regulate the conduct of registered migration agents. 

The Code of Conduct:

(a) protects clients of migration agents; and

(b) strengthens the integrity of the immigration advice industry and Australia’s immigration system.


Provision for a Code of Conduct for migration agents is set out in Section 314 of the Migration Act 1958.
