  • Streamline Student Visa Processing Extended

    14 November 2014: Subclass 572 (Advanced diploma level) will be eligible for streamline visa processing arrangements from 23 November 2014 - more info here.




  • Ebola Virus Disease

    11.11.2014

    7 November 2014: DIBP has put in place new visa and border arrangements for all travellers from EVD-affected countries in Africa. These arrangements include:

    • a temporary suspension of processing of visa applications for permanent visas and some provisional visas from EVD affected countries
    • in some circumstances, cancelling visas that have been granted to persons currently outside of Australia when those persons have been in an EVD affected country in the last 21 days
    • refusing some visa applications for temporary visas unless applicants are assessed as posing no risk of EVD.

  • More nationalities now eligible for SmartGate use

    31 October 2014: Minister Morrison confirmed SmartGate was now available on a trial basis to Canadian and Irish ePassport holders at all major Australian international airports. SmartGate technology is currently available as a permanent arrangement to e-Passport holders from Australia, New Zealand, UK, US and Singapore while a trial for Swiss e-Passport holders is still underway.   • 462 Work and Holiday Visa for Israel

    On 22 October 2014, Australia and Israel announced that a new Work and Holiday Memorandum of Understanding was signed, establishing a reciprocal Work and Holiday visa (subclass 462) arrangement between our two countries- more details here.




  • Reforming skilled migration to improve Australia's competitiveness

    14 October 2014: The Government will reform the 457 visa programme for skilled migrants, while maintaining strong safeguards against abuse. More info here

Migration Agents Code of Conduct

The Code of Conduct for registered migration agents is set out in legislation to regulate the conduct of registered migration agents. 

The Code of Conduct:

(a) protects clients of migration agents; and

(b) strengthens the integrity of the immigration advice industry and Australia’s immigration system.


Provision for a Code of Conduct for migration agents is set out in Section 314 of the Migration Act 1958.
